In our 3-4 year old classes the elements of music are made conscious through stimulating games and visual reinforcement. Children participate in singing and movement activities and play a range of percussion instruments. These classes have more structure and the children learn skills such as one-to-one correspondence and reading from left to right. These skills develop children's understanding of music and help prepare them for kinder. Children learn some musical terms and begin to recognise a crotchet rest. They also begin to use the music staff. Group activities are designed to help with children's social development and dramatic play is extended to introduce performance in a gentle way. Adults stay in the class, but children participate independently under teacher direction. When children first enrol in the 3-4 year old program they will receive a Bumblebee hand puppet. The Bumblebee puppet is used as a learning aid. Each term's enrolment also includes a music book.
