Most abacus classes are taught in Mandarin by teachers mostly from Taiwan. But at Crestar you can choose between the Mandarin or English conducted classes. The Mandarin class is taught by Taiwanese teacher and the English class will be taught by local teachers. I prefer the English class as Math is usually taught in English at school. Not much of a confusion for my child. Class size is small max about 10 students. Lesson for the day will be written on the board each lesson. So in class they will be taught the correct fingering of holding the pencil and moving of the beads. There will also be some mental sum competition in class and if your child is really good, they will even send them to Taiwan for competition. Sadly my child is not one of them.
