Abacus & Mental Arithmetic
Fun With Abacus is an Abacus and Mental Arithmetic School that specializes in teaching the young to learn the four basic operation mathematics signs (+, -, x, ÷) at young age. We have more than 10 years of teaching experience and aim to share this beneficial knowledge to all children. With Fun WIth Abacus, your child will learn the 4 basic mathematics signs using the concrete tool -Abacus. Abacus helps a child to count, faster and accurately. This visual tool will help the child to better understand the concept of the four basic operation mathematics signs (+, -, x, ÷). After mastering the skills on how to count using an abacus, the child will then learn to use the principle of abacus calculation to count in his mind. This is known as Mental Arithmetic. Building up their mental thinking skills will greatly provide them with a good numeracy foundation and prepare them for their advance mathematics academic level.

The abacus used here is different from the usual 5 beads abacus. Theirs have 9 beads instead with the 5th bead red in color. I will have to purchase the abacus and also the material which is in a booklet form with exercises inside. The class ratio is small and the program starts off with very simple additions and subtractions with the use of the abacus and there is a need to memorize the formulas e.g. if -9 means down 10 up 1 on the abacus. The trainer will usually demonstrate using a bigger abacus. The trainer will also allow the opportunity to send their students for competition if she finds that her students are ready. Homework will be expected after each lesson and the trainer encouraged that parents should not help them with their homework so that the trainer knows whether my child really knows or needs help with which areas but rather we should just support them by revising with them on the formulas and practicing more.
