My daughter has progressed from the preliminary level to this I can read program which is actually their main program for I CAN READ. As compared to the preliminary program, this stage focus more on reading and spelling and has more homework and parental involvement required. There is a total of 3 workbooks to complete within 20 lessons for the year. Parents are required to read at least 15 mins daily with their child on the passages in the workbook and be asked to read in the next lesson. There is also a page of spelling words where we have to go through and prepare for the spelling test for the next lesson. They even have a parents' signature chopped on each of these pages to ensure that we are aware and really go through with them. The program also includes a code card with a screen reader to help the child to recognize the different phonics sound through use of pictures e.g. the middle sound of a with a picture of a cat and the screen reader is used to helped the child breaks down each word. As for writing, it will comes at the later part of the program. So far, this level is much more interesting than previous levels. The downside is the lisst of spelling words are way too difficult for my girl and she has been pretty discouraged going to ICR classes everyweek. First few lessons she even teared. We were just promoted to this level for few weeks only. Will see how things go.

we were initially quite concerned that our boy could not read, but after attending the program, he improved tremendously and was able to read independently within half a year. We were very happy with his progress and have continued him on to the next level. As a result of taking this program me, he can now read confidently and it helped him when he progressed to primary one.

My son started his phonics lesson at I Can Read towards the second half of his K1. Our objective is mainly to have him able to read a book that is age appropriate for him all by himself. In a year's time, my son is able to read independently. A lot of parental involvement in the sense that we had to ensure that he did practise reading the list of words given to him after every session and as he progress, stories were introduced. On the whole, we were pretty happy with our son's progress and we stopped the lesson after 1year when the objective was met. However, do take note there's a difference in fees between the weekday n weekend lessons.
