I have recently enrolled my gal to Julia Gab. for their bilingual playgroup. It's a 2 hour programme where it's conducted in Mandarin and English. There are 4 teachers in total. 2 for English the other 2 for Mandarin. I am very impressed by the Mandarin session especially the story telling part as the teachers arereally animated. Though my gal couldn't understand a single Mandarin, she was so attentive and really follow through the story. The China teachers role played and they needn't read from any book. As for the English part, I'm a little disappointed as they read directly from a book and it's not as interesting. Maybe not all the Chinese teachers read from the book though. But on the whole, it's still good and I find that my gal is trying to 'speak' more after attending this programme. Although JG is alittle pricey, the quality of teachers is really good and the English teachers speak really good English. Also, at JG they encourage children to speak up and be more independent. It's a fun program which my girl enjoys
I enrolled my girl for the Sunday's Bilingual playgroup when she was 18 months old. The sessions are packed with fun filled activities: We moved from art and craft to singalong sessions, to story time, to 15 mins 'playground' time, to snack time etc It was never boring. My girl was walking around not concentrating for the first few weeks but we saw her improvement as the weeks go by, she started to participate more. We enrolled for 3 terms and stopped when she started her preschool, as the activities seem similar after a few terms and we are staying quite far from the forum where the classes are. On and all, it seemed to be a good exposure for an 18 months old for starting on social skills, I see it more as a weekly bonding session with her though :)
