Sensory Integration
Sensory integration is the ability to take in information through senses (touch, movement, smell, taste, vision, and hearing), to put it together with prior information (memories, and knowledge stored in the brain), to make a meaningful response. Sensory integration occurs in the central nervous system. It is responsible for things such as coordination, attention, arousal levels, autonomic functioning, emotions, memory, and higher level cognitive functions. Sensory Integration is the process in which the brain accepts messages from the senses and interprets them accordingly to an appropriate action or behavioral response. This process explains the connection between the brain and behavior which is the reason behind why certain individuals respond and act the way they are.
