As compared to some other similar courses, I believe Shicida is one of those that has term test for the kids from age 4 and above. For me, I prefer having such tests every term as it encourages me to be more diligent and consistent with my practice with my child. There will be a poem recitation where every child in the class will have to stand in front of the class and recite. There is also a 60 cards test which the child will be given a certain timing to complete reciting all these cards. For some parents, they might feel that it is quite stressful and challenging for the child but for me I do see improvement in my child as she progresses.
When we first started our son on Shicida, we seldom spend time at home practicing it with him and so I don't see much of a progress. It was after a year plus when we decided to be consistent with our practice at home, we saw improvement in terms of memory and focus. Now his able to focus better throughout the class and answers most of the games correctly. It exposes him to be able to read things at a faster speed as well as capturing of pictures and linking them up to remember better. They do have games other than flashcards like block games, tangram puzzles, maze. They also introduce early counting and simple subtraction and addition which my son school has not even taught yet.
My child is with Shicida since 1.5yo till presently 4yo. He liked attending the class. Class remained with max 6 students per 1 teacher. Lesson conducted in table-chair setting where parents will be seated behind the child's seating. Each and every activity will be guided and to be completed within short timeframe. Teacher is there to observe each child's performance though it is never a competition among the children, teacher will write a short review of each child in their own review booklet. In my opinion, I think if any parent intend to send the child, you should be prepared for a longer period of participation of at least 4-5 years of lessons. It's not that no effect to send only for 1-2 years, if you send the child as early as few month to before 2yo, I find it still benefit the child in term of independence and confidence of the child. For sending older kid to such training, I think it will help in disciplining.. Afterall, it will help the child and help to build a good foundation for the child. However, if you are looking at training your child to be very bright or as great as those in their testimonials shown, do not give up sending the child in. For short term training of only 1-2 years, result seen might be limited. Hence, it is not that the lesson not effective, but to be fully effective, long term and consistent training both at home and to the lesson are required.
My daughter started shichida lessons when she was 9 months old. We have been on this programme for 17 months now. She had greatly benefited from shichida. She has a wide range of vocabulary and her memory is amazing. She can learn new concepts easily. For a period when she just turned two, she displayed some ESP abilities too. Now at 26 months, she could speak in full sentences, tell stories and sing many songs and nursery Rhymes. She could also read books word for word based on memory too. The teacher she has is very patient and encoruaing towards the children. It is at shichida I learn the things to teach her at home and reinforce the concepts. That said, attending the classes alone is not enough. Have to put in effort to do home practice which my daughter enjoys very much too. Many times she is the one who urges me to do the home practice. Home practice also encourages bonding between us as the things we do are interesting. Would recommend shichida to all parents who want to have the child keen in learning and setting the pace right for rest of her life.
Joined Shichida class for the first time this term at the Toa Payoh hub branch. Decided to join as we heard alot of good things about this program. My baby girl is 12 months now and have attended 4-5 classes now. The kids in the class are joined according to their birth year (for my girl is 2014 babies). The youngest student is only 6-7 months old in our class! We can't tell how much it had helped our baby girl yet but one thing for sure is that her attention span in class improved greatly since the first class. She is able to sit down and pay attention to the teacher for the 1 hour class. I'm amazed and happy that she is interested in knowing what the teacher is teaching her and i feel like she's actually absorbing information in class. Definitely worth the try. I'm giving 4 stars as I feel like the school fees are kinda of steep - avg $72 per class. Parents are also required to join a one-time Parents Education Seminar (without the kid) at $195 per person. However the money is refundable if your kid sign up/join Shichida for over 1 year.
My son has been with Shichida since he was 15months old! We were on the program for 2.5 years and really find that Shichida is great for training brains! Compared to his peers, he does learn better and is able to pick up concepts much faster too! He is also more articulate compared to his peers! We attribute this to the early brain training at Shichida! Would strongly recommend the program to other parents out there who hope to make a difference for their kids future development!
