Wanted to prepare my boy for primary school as I find that he does not speak chinese as well as other kids. He always mix chinese and english in the same sentence but now since he joined TH, he does not mix the language so often now as the school teaches him to learn the corect usage.

Each term there will be a new folder given to everyone to put in the worksheets given for that lesson including word cards of the different Chinese words they have learnt for that week. Usually they learn about 3 to 4 new words and the words are getting tougher each week. They will also have Chinese ting xie about 3 Chinese characters every other week. Then there will be the term end concert where the kids from N1 to K2 will take their turns to perform. This includes singing in groups, then individually and then word recognition. There is no homework though but parents can go through the worksheets in the folder. There are writing, counting of strokes, matching of pictures to the Chinese words, listening comprehension and short stories included inside. The good thing about this school is their flexibility in terms of make up classes and change of centres or class timing as long as there are slots available. However, I feel that whether my child likes the class or learn well depends largely on the teacher quality for that class.

My son started attending classes at Tien Xia with a weak knowledge of Chinese. At that moment in time, he was not able to speak Chinese. After attending a term at Tien Xia, he was able to use Chinese at a comfortable level. He also had a recital performance in front of his classmates and their parents. The teachers are caring and helpful in pinpointing the strong and weak areas of the child. This is helpful to countinuous learning at home. I would recommend Tien Xia to other parents.
