It is a 45 mins parent accompanied music lesson, my daughter is excited whenever we attend the lesson. We are just finishing our first term. She love the catchy Yamaha songs and trying out the different instruments. She is gaining a better understanding of rhythms and tunes, as well as music terminology. The teacher made use of different materials such picture cards to gain the attention of the children. We do not know if the rest of the terms will be the same, I hope they will introduce other forms of materials and methods to engage the children as we progress.

My 10 years old started her music journey as a 3 yrs old toddler at Yamaha ps branch. Our teacher, Ms Tan Lian Eng was a dedicated teacher and not only my child love her lessons. I took up piano lessons with Yamaha too spured by the environment where music really soothe the souls. I especially enjoyed the concerts performed by the class at the end of the term and u can see Ms Tan, the maestro leading the children with the instruments for the finale performance for the parents. Due to the solid foundation set by the programme, my daughter has blossomed to a confident musician. She completed a self wrote repertoire and performed in front of strangers at the academy. Today, as a grade 4 student who recently scored a high distinction for her abrsm, she occasionally recounted her wonderful days with the school. My three years old will be embarking her musical journey with Yamaha next year and I look forward to singing and playing the keyboard with her soon.

I like Yamaha because of its close proximity to home and the focus on parent-child bonding. They emphasize on auditory training rather than visual which means they teach solfege (do-re-me-fa-so) instead of the ABRSM style (C-D-E-F-G). I prefer learning music in an enjoyable manner by listening and playing, rather than recognising notes and playing. Yamaha Music Wonderland class is fun and light-hearted by getting the kids to play simple sounds/notes on the electone. There are also audio CDs for us to purchase and play at home to listen. The kids were required to perform for class concert after the end of two terms by singing with movements and percussion instruments and playing the keyboard individually based on chosen song. I never thought my 4yo G1 could do it but he did! Finally, G1 was graduated from Yamaha Music Wonderland in March 2015 and is now moving on to Yamaha Junior Music Course. because Yamaha music class must be parent-accompanied, it helps a lot to build the trust and understanding between the child and parent. To me, this is not just a music class but an opportunity for us to interact and bond together. I feel that not only the child has learnt about rhythm, pitch, use of percussion instruments and so on, the parent is also learning and appreciating music together with the child. I always believe that the key to learning is motivation and parents play a crucial role in motivating the child. Therefore, it requires huge commitment from the parents as when children move on from Music Wonderland to Junior Music Course, they need to stay in the Junior Music Course for 4 years in order to qualify for ABRSM examination.

My 4 years old daughter has been with Yamaha since 3 years old at west gate branch. Parents need to accompany their kids during the entire 45min class. The kids are taught singing, listening to rhythm, playing musical instruments like the triangles, bells, tambourine and only a bit of playing the electone. The songs are rather easy to sing along and catchy. They are asked to also stand in front to perform at every lessons and also at end of term. For parents who are interested in sending their children to learn piano at Yamaha eventually, please note that Yamaha's structure is by different stages and kids are only allowed to play the piano at age 6. My husband prefers this Yamaha route and he doesn't mind accompanying her during class, hence we continued our daughter with Yamaha. Not sure if parent needs to accompany the child for piano classes later on when they are older though.
